Kylie Jenner

I chose to analyze the social media presence of the one and only, Kylie Jenner. For all the people who have siblings, you are aware that you are more than likely going to be compared to them or compare yourself to them at least one time within your life. For example, I have a half sister, who I have not seen since I was 14, yet I tell my father that I know I am his favorite daughter, why? Because I went to college. Now I think to myself, what if I was born into a family of six women who all came before me, and each woman had already been very successful in their own way and made a name for the whole family. That is A LOT of pressure, but somehow, Kylie Jenner outdid all of the six successful women who came before her. I believe this is because she was born with the generation that has been using social media all their life, and using social media has brought her success faster than her other sisters. And she uses social media in ways that allows this generation to relate with her. If Kylie was born into a generation that was not as big on social media as it is now, the only way she could have possibly topped Kim was beating her at her own game, and making a sex tape.

Kylie Jenner is most present on Instagram, and Twitter. Now between these two social media platforms, she is on Instagram quite a lot. She is very visible to the world, but I do feel like she only shows her best sides. She is almost always wearing something very sexy and trendy, something that we all wish we could have the confidence to even try to pull off (and we all wish we had the money for). She is a fashion diva and a trendsetter for this generation. I was actually influenced by Kylie Jenner to dye the end of my hair blonde when I was in 10th grade. When she posts a picture on Instagram in an outfit no one has really done before, the next day, clothing websites will be selling the same exact outfit but their own version of it. And because almost everyone has seen Kylie post this picture in this outfit, the companies do not even need that much promotion for selling that same outfit. For the most part, her tone of voice on Instagram is very fashionable as if she was the supermodel of the family, but nope, that is her older sister Kendall. All Kardashian-Jenner sisters get compared to each other by society and social media, but for the most part we only see them uplift each other and complement each other in pictures.

Compared to some celebrities, like the queen Beyonce who I am pretty sure does not get on social media at all and has someone who runs all of her accounts for her, but Kylie is very good at interacting with other users. She does not interact with other users on Instagram, but has dedicated the social media app Twitter to do the most of her interacting with other users and fans. The number one thing she talks about when she is interacting with other users is her makeup line. This is a way for her to connect with her fans but also use it has mostly promoting her makeup line. She will comment on retweet makeup looks that people have created using her eye-shadow pallets. One thing that she does that has become very popular, is post swatches on her skin of the different colors in her own pallets, and lip glosses. Now this was a great sale tactic because everyone has gone into a makeup store and has left with a bunch of random colors on their hand from testing out makeup. Another way that she has made herself very relatable to her own generation.

I do believe this generation is most known for having children at a young age, and what did Kylie Jenner do? Just that (except she is actually financially stable to be able to take care of a child on her own, unlike most of this generation). She hid her pregnancy from social media, but did make the announcement on Instagram and that then became the most liked Instagram picture in the world. When I see Kylie post a picture of her baby Stormi, it just feels like I am looking at one of the girls that I went to highschool with and got pregnant after graduating posting baby pictures. It is as if Kylie Jenner gets bored and asks herself “What is something that is common within my generation?” and then she does it, and getting pregnant and having a baby at a young age was one of those.

One thing that I would recommend that Kylie should do to become even more relatable to her audience is start showing her silly side more. Kylie, we know you are human and no human is looking perfect all the time, so we want to see some funny ugly selfies. She does post videos on her Instagram story that shows her funny and silly personality, but it is just a preview of it. We want to see the whole thing Kylie!! I also wish she would post more content on twitter that shows more of her personality, instead of just tweets that have to do with her makeup line. This would help her audience connect with her on an emotional level.

Overall, I believe Kylie Jenner has used social media and her platform to become the queen of her generation. The way we all grew up on social media, she also grew up on it with us. She keeps up with her brand and her presence on social media by being relatable (not in a wealth way) but in a social media way, because who does not use social media these days?? So I would just like to give a thanks to Kylie Jenner, for basically making social media. Kylie Jenner is social media.
